Maya Angelou wrote “The ache for home lives in all of us, the safe place where we can go as we are, and not be questioned.” In Episode 5, Kim explains how she works with clients to create their own very personal spaces, the home that Maya Angelou describes.Kim’s process begins with a “dreaming phase” in which clients are encouraged to imagine their home, free from constraints of time and money. Then comes the budget and structure phase, which includes floor plans, furniture layouts and discussing the constraints in the plan (architecture, specific furniture pieces, budget, time frame). Plans are made to maximize the use of space, from repurposing furniture and rooms to storage options. Next, to fill in with the purchase of new furniture and accessories, Kim describes how she uses workrooms, showrooms, retail stores and consignment shops, sourced over the years she has worked in the design field. Finally, she talks about adding personality with photos, collections, and special mementos.Kim, who is based in Cleveland, OH, can be reached at [email protected].
