Computer specialists, real estate entrepreneurs, world travelers and raconteurs Marcia and Steve Plotkin explain how to successfully transition to retirement. "I’d rather call it rewiring, because that’s pretty much what we wanted to do," Marcia says. “Steve had [a] theory, which was ‘Let’s do a 90-degree turn.’ We will not do anything we had done before, and we will try to do all new, different things and see what sticks.”
“Most people live their lives sort of between the railroad tracks. … And rarely do things outside their comfort zone, which is inside the railroad tracks. A 90-degree turn means that suddenly you’re going 90 degrees to the railroad tracks and you’re off the tracks. You’re doing things that you might not have done before," Steve explains. “When the Pope came to town, we volunteered and I wound up on national television down in front of the stage by accident. It was a lot of fun spending that day just volunteering at that international event. We also are scheduled to volunteer at the Democratic National Convention coming up this summer. And we will volunteer at the Ocean City air show, just as flunky workers.”
