Chris Markarian’s life has been one of constant transition: born in Iraq, raised in Lebanon, seminary education, immigration to the United States, military service after 9/11, law school, and entrepreneurship. Through every stage he mastered the environment in front of him.

As a law firm owner, Chris built a seven-figure business through discipline and relentless effort. Chris shares an epiphany that changed the way he leads, beginning with a lesson from Erika’s equestrian experience: in order to get a horse to do what you want, you must whisper and not yell. He expands the metaphor further. Being strong like an oak or sequoia has value, but leadership sometimes requires bending like bamboo.

Chris’ story demonstrates that personal development is not separate from profit. It produces it. As leadership matures, teams strengthen. When teams strengthen, performance improves. And as performance improves, profit follows.
