The concept of social media political campaigns isn't something far fetched. In fact in 2016 Amama Mbabazi announced his presidential bid via his youtube channel followed by a question and answer session live on social media. Why then, is the opposition in Uganda strongly challenging the 2021-2020 recommendation to use social media for political campaigns? How practical is this recommendation in relation to the functionality of Uganda’s legal frame work and system especially in regards to online surveillance, protection of online freedom of expressions and protection of privacy and personal data on social media.
