My heart is for you to fall in love with reading the Bible and knowing God’s Word. I want you to be strong in your faith and be bold in being a light for Christ wherever you go.

Today we are finishing our Philippians Bible study. As always, I recommend listening to the other episodes in this series for the best listening experience and to have better context.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things. What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

—Philippians 4:8-9

This is what we should be thinking about. We want to think about what is true, honorable, just, pure, lovely, commendable, of excellence, and worthy of praise. We want to meditate on and focus on what is good.

What you take in, will affect you. Who you talk to, who you are around, who you listen to will change you and affect how you see the world–good or bad. We talked about this in a previous episode asking the question, “does it matter who I am friends with as a christian?” and it really does matter. It’s not just the people we are around, it is also what we take in, what we read, what we watch, what we listen to, what we scroll on. All of it vies for our attention and can and does change you.

I know this as a writer. What I take in, the books I read, the shows I watch, for good or bad their influence will start to show up in my writing. So I need to be careful in what I take in. I urge you to also be mindful of this.

In all seasons we can trust in the LORD. He is our one constant in life. The one thing that we can rely on. We can do all things–endure the good and the bad–with the LORD.

What is the secret to being content? Let’s grab our Bibles (I’m using an ESV translation) and a cup of coffee or tea if you’d like and let’s read the Bible together!
