Today's episode challenges the binaries of good and evil, cops and robbers, masculinity and femininity... just to name a few. In our society many people, especially affluent or "middle class raised" white people like myself were socialized to believe that cops are the good guys, criminals are the bad guys, and that the only path to justice is incarceration, a.k.a. sending people to prison. But today's guest, Richie Reseda, will blow those binaries apart. Richie was freed from prison in 2018 and is a producer and abolitionist feminist organizer. He founded Question Culture, a social impact record label, and Richie co-founded Initiate Justice, which organizes people directly impacted by mass incarceration and works to change laws to end it. In this conversation, you'll witness that no matter how much I attempted to research ahead of time, Richie still absolutely blew my mind.
