I believe it is obvious that today, there is a lack of true love for the Lord’s churches. Several years ago I read an article titled “Meet Those Who ‘Love Jesus But Not The Church.’’ First of all, that sentiment cannot be supported biblically. It is like saying, “I like to play baseball, but I don’t care to be on a team.” It makes no sense. The term “Christian” means “Christ like.” Listen to Ephesians 5:25: “Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it . . . ” The Lord did not intend for believers to be “freelancers,” working by our own authority (of which we have none) and for personal benefit, when it comes to His Kingdom work. Simply put, you can’t love the Lord without loving this church! If you love someone or something, you're going to want to be around them, or it. So do you love your wife/husband? Do you love your children? Do you find enjoyment in being with them? If you love this church, you will want to be here! Of course, I know there are those who are physically unable to be here. I’m not talking about them. But, if God gives you health and God gives you strength, one of the first things you should do with it is to use it to attend the public worship of the Lord. You cannot serve God however you want to, or just “whenever” you want to. You'll do it in His way. II Timothy 2:5 says, “And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.” In Ephesians 3:21 we read, “Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” Again, the problem is that many do not really have a self-sacrificing love for Christ. They say they do. However, it isn’t revealed in their actions. In the verses of this chapter we see how we who make up the Lord’s churches should feel about our beloved Lord.
