Three Rivers Reflection

How the Ascension Rewired the Disciples

Listen Later

What happens when the physical presence of a leader leaves, and a new era begins? For the disciples, they had just survived the traumatic events of Christ's arrest and crucifixion, followed by 40 miraculous days of seeing Him resurrected. But on the Mount of Olives, everything changed when Jesus was lifted into the clouds and taken straight out of their sight.

This sermon explores why the Ascension is considered a major turning event in the Christian faith. Up until this profound moment, the disciples relied entirely on the physical presence of Christ, who they could see, hear, and touch. However, His departure was actually a powerful beginning that paved the way for the era of the Holy Spirit. Unlike a physical presence limited by time and space, the Holy Spirit serves as a constant comforter and advocate for all believers at all times.

Dive into this week's message to discover what Jesus is doing right now as He reigns at the right hand of God, actively advocating for us and praying for our protection. Learn about the vital mission He left behind for us: to be witnesses to the ends of the earth, equipped with spiritual gifts to share faith, forgive sins, and act with compassion rather than judgment.

Join us as we explore the scriptures—including Acts 1, Luke 24, and Jesus' beautiful prayer in John 17—to find hope, spiritual boldness, and the ultimate assurance of Christ's promised return. Watch now to understand how the Ascension equips us to face today's challenges!
