How The Evolution Of The String Band Captain Has Impacted The Division

Listen Later

On this episode of MUMHEADS, The Original Philadelphia Mummers Podcast, we're discussing the evolution of the role of the String Band Captain. A once prestigious position bestowed upon a long-term, dedicated member who possessed a great deal of leadership ability, is now given to the younger legs able to keep up with the demand of high-energy choreography.

We break down the changes in the role of the captain by decade, as well as the correlations between the changes in the captain's performance and the effect it's had on the changes in the band's performance.

Also, we're taking a look at a few old newspaper clippings describing the beginning of the Palmyra String Band. Some Mummer history you're going to enjoy.
