How the Ishmaelite Line Preserved Revelation

Listen Later

Season 2, Episode 15

What does it mean to call Muhammad the “Seal of the Prophets,” and how should Christians understand Islam’s claim to preserve an Abrahamic line of revelation? This episode examines The Seal of the Prophets: Conceptual Invariants in the Ishmaelite Transmission of Divine Revelation, tracing two genealogies from Abraham: the Isaacic line through Israel, Christ, and the Church, and the Ishmaelite line through Ishmael, the Kaʿba, Muhammad, and the Ummah. Using the framework of reception, preservation, clarification, accessibility, embodiment, and transmission, the episode compares how both traditions carry revelation through history. It also distinguishes historical culmination from ultimate fulfillment: Christianity locates its decisive self-disclosure in the Incarnation of the eternal Logos, while Islam locates the completion of prophetic succession in Muhammad. The final claim is simple: God alone is the source, measure, and fulfillment of both genealogies.
