America’s federal maritime law known as the Jones Act is harmful to the territory of Puerto Rico, and people throughout the U.S. should be skeptical of it, says Luis Ponce, co-founder and action director of the Boricuas Unidos en la Diaspora, an activist organization that promotes progressive policy options intended to improve lives for the people of Puerto Rico. Host Keli’i Akina talks with Ponce about how people of all stripes, including progressives and liberals, should learn about the Jones Act’s negative impact on America’s non-contiguous territories and states, as well as the United States in general.
