I know, I know… you shouldn’t have to ask for the Mother’s Day you actually want. But hear me out: what if asking for what you want is the whole point?
In this episode of Free The Moms, I’m talking about how to stop handing your emotional wellbeing over to your kids, your partner, your family, or any holiday that has historically left you feeling disappointed. Mother’s Day can be tender, complicated, or loaded for so many reasons—and this episode is not about forcing magic where there’s grief, strain, or heaviness. It’s about getting honest about what you want, giving yourself permission to want it, and taking your power back.
I’ll walk you through how to dream up your actual best Mother’s Day—not the obligatory version, not the “I shouldn’t want that” version, not the one where everyone magically reads your mind. The real one. Maybe that’s sleeping in. Maybe it’s brunch with your best friend. Maybe it’s a two-hour massage, a hotel night alone, flowers, handmade cards, time with your family, or zero time with your family. Anything goes.
And then comes the part most of us avoid: saying it out loud. Because our people are not mind readers. Follow-through can be romantic. Asking can still be powerful. And even if they don’t do it perfectly? You still get to decide how you want to feel.
Listen in to hear:
- Why Mother’s Day and holidays can feel so emotionally loaded
- How to create your dream Mother’s Day without guilt, obligation, or “shoulds”
- Why wanting what you want is not selfish
- How to ask clearly for flowers, cards, alone time, connection, or whatever actually matters to you
- Why your emotional wellbeing cannot depend on everyone else getting it right
- How to hold your requests lightly without giving away your joy
- Why buying yourself the damn flowers still counts
I also share about the brand-new Free The Moms website and rebrand at [lauraconley.com](http://lauraconley.com), where you can poke around, check out upcoming retreats, and book a call if you want to join the next Yummy Mummy: Lose Weight For The Last Time cohort.
If you’re in the Denver/Boulder area, I’m also hosting Mom’s Actual Mother’s Day on May 9th—a mini retreat with yoga, massage, intuitive readings, wine, and all the things moms actually want. Reach out to me at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) or DM me on Instagram [@lauraconleycoaching](https://instagram.com/lauraconleycoaching) if you want a ticket.
And pretty, pretty please: this is a brand-new podcast feed, which means Free The Moms needs reviews! If you loved this episode, leave a five-star written review to help get this new podcast out into the world.
P.S. Lose Weight For The Last Time still exists! Free The Moms is the new sister podcast where we’ll be talking about freedom, motherhood, self-prioritization, joy, pleasure, burnout, people-pleasing, and all the ways moms get to take our lives back.
