The Sarah Show

How To Be A Mom Without One feat. Sarah's Mom, Amy Chew

Listen Later

On the eighth episode of The Sarah Show, Sarah talks with her mom, Amy Chew, about how she learned to be such a good mother despite losing her own mom at an early age.

Amy Chew grew up in a village in Malaysia, where her parents ran a coffee shop. Her mom was diagnosed with cancer when she was only 10 years old, and for 10 more years while her mom was in and out of the hospital, Amy balanced taking care of her seven siblings and going to school.  At the age of 20, her mom passed away, and Amy talks about how that loss affected her life.

She also shares what it felt like when she gave birth to her first daughter, and how she wanted to be the best role model for her girls to look up to. In the absence of her own mom, Amy speaks about how God provided motherly figures and friends in her life to guide her.

*WARNING: the subject matter of death, grief and loss may be triggering to some. Prepare yourselves as Sarah and her mom speak honestly and openly about loss and pain.
