Being a successful computer science major is less about innate talent and more about cultivating disciplined thinking habits early, because computer science rewards students who are comfortable with abstraction, patient with debugging, and willing to read documentation, specifications, and theory carefully rather than relying solely on tutorials or quick examples, so the students who succeed are those who treat programming as a formal problem solving language, build strong foundations in logic, discrete math, and algorithms, practice writing code slowly and intentionally, and accept confusion and iteration as normal parts of learning rather than signs that they are falling behind.
