Johnny Outing // In the early church, Peter—the rock on whom Jesus chose to build his church—has a shocking experience. God himself, (the God for whom Peter follows all the rules!), commands Peter to break one. He asks Peter to eat ceremonially unclean food with ceremonially unclean people, because Jesus Christ has torn down the cultural traditions that divide clean and unclean forever. The transformational nature of the gospel invites us into close proximity with those who are diametrically opposed to us, because the church (and each of us) becomes more beautiful and sanctified with each of us in it.
