How do you become a full-time Brazilian Zouk teacher, and actually survive on it? When I moved to Australia I had five jobs. McDonald's, cleaning, security, surveys, housekeeping.

I dropped them one at a time as the dance income grew, and it still took me three years to go full-time, nine or ten more before I had savings instead of just survival. Gui Prada, Adayl Iost and I tell the real money story behind teaching this dance.

Gui came from a law firm in Rio. He became a full-time dancer by accident — he didn't even notice until a year in. His grandfather's rule still runs his money: "when I reach a thousand and one dollars, in my head I have one dollar." Adayl came through Disney and Target before going full-time last year, and he's honest about being in survival mode right now.

How dancers actually pay for this life:

→ Multiple income streams: privates, regular classes, weekenders, online. When the pandemic killed one, the others carried me.

→ Plan for the future, not the month: most of my week is unpaid work building projects years out. My full time is my future.

→ A safety net you don't touch: I keep three accounts I call Main, Flexible, and Do Not Touch. Gui keeps a full year of expenses.

The big takeaway: you don't quit your way into a dance career. You build multiple streams, plan years ahead, and keep a safety net you never spend. Going full-time isn't the finish line. For me it was nine more years to real savings. So if you went full-time, how long did your transition really take?
