Working as a startup mentor can be very rewarding. Even if you don't have any startup experience of your own, being a startup mentor allows you to learn more about the startup industries while giving back to your own startup community.
Most of the startups I know are eager to find professionals, with the right expertise, that can help by providing guidance around various topics.
Some times you will find a technical founder who needs someone with business expertise. Or, vice versa.
Sometimes that founder has both technical and business experience, but could still benefit from a mentor who can provide other insights.
If you are going to be a startup mentor, make sure you do it for the right reasons. Such relationships can grow into revenue-producing opportunities. But, don't become a startup mentor as a business development activity.
Instead, become a startup mentor because you want to give back or learn new skills.
