Today, we’ll go over the first few steps that you need to take in order to buy a home. The very first thing you need to do is get a mortgage consultation. Sit down with a lender and figure out what you can afford. The lender will look at your income, debt, and credit report. They will review all of your finances so that you can set a realistic budget. Next, you need to pick your Realtor. Look for referrals, check out online testimonials and reviews, and pick several agents to interview. Make sure that you hire someone you are comfortable with, someone you trust, and someone who will be with you every step of the way. “ Interview multiple Realtors and hire one you can trust. ” After that, you will talk with your agent about what you are looking for in a home. Be specific so that the agent can meet your expectations. How many rooms do you want? How big of a yard are you looking for? Decide what you are looking for before you actually start looking. Once that is figured out, you need to determine the general area that you want to live in. From there, you can narrow it down to certain neighborhoods. How close do you need to be to schools? What do you want your commute to be like? Which neighborhood best suits your needs? Finally, you are ready to start the fun part: looking at homes! There is a lot more to the home buying process, so stay tuned for part two in our series, when we’ll discuss looking at homes and negotiating a contract.
