Romans 12:2

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.”

In order to break your own record you need to make up your mind so that you can know what you are trying to do so that you can break your own record. After you make up your mind as to what you want and need to do to break your own record you now must reposition your mind to where you know that you are in the right mindset to be able to accomplish breaking your own record.
