In this episode of Pitch Cafe, I talk with Vineet Johnson and Samir Sahoo 😊 IRegained, is a digital neurotherapeutics company that has developed a clinically validated, therapist-directed, smart, in-clinic, and in-home digital rehabilitation system that empowers chronic stroke and traumatic brain injury survivors to reclaim unassisted use of their upper extremities, including hand usage. IRegained’s portable MyHand System will allow therapists to treat loss of hand function, both in a clinical setting and in the comfort of a patient’s home. 🍀 Vineet Johnson is the founder and CEO of IRegained. His background is in physical therapy and neuroscience. His interest in neuroscience and rehab started 30 years ago as an undergrad student while working on his physical therapy degree in Christian Medical School and Hospital in southern India. He was largely focused on the research of understanding how the hand function is controlled by the brain predominantly in primate models or monkey models 😄 That interest stayed with him which over time eventually led him to understand how the hand function is controlled in the human system and also what happens when someone’s brain is damaged and how to replace this function so that these individuals can reclaim their independence and live an independent life 💛 Samir Sahoo is the COO of IRegained. He always loved fiddling around with things and when he grew up he eventually ended up being a marine engineer and worked in the oil and gas industry. But, he was always passionate about doing something bigger so he did his master of business at Purdue University to do a career shift. He commercialized technologies out of Purdue research park and to get some more real-world experience in the marketing sales and business development side he got a job at Zimmer Biomet, which is one of the largest musculoskeletal companies in the world, as an associate brand manager and then as a marketing manager 😀 When he met Vineet through his connection to MaRS, which is one of the largest incubators in Canada, He met the perfect partner on the science side. So, he can apply the engineering, business, and commercialization aspects to do something good for people ✨ In this podcast, they talk about challenges in commercialization, market analysis, their device, bringing the hardware into the market, implementation of VR, how does it work? financials and partners, and much more! ✌
