How to Build Trust with Your Podcast

Listen Later

In this episode, I share a recent conversation I had around how to build trust through your podcast. I discovered that he is not being consistent with his publishing schedule. In this episode, we cover:

  1. Why people who find your podcast don't subscribe
  2. What impact does an erratic schedule have on building trust
  3. How to easily establish trust for your podcast.

The Big Idea: trust is easy to build with a podcast if you show up consistently.

Show Notes:

During my group coaching session, one person asked about growing his podcast. I asked him, "How often do you publish episodes?" His response was "It depends. Every 2 to 3 weeks."

When I pushed him on this issue, he said he doesn't believe people care when episodes drop. They check their podcast player app, see a new episode has been downloaded, and then they play it.

Is he right?

That may be for people who are already subscribed ...

But what about people who have not yet subscribed?

Buzzsprout reported on some data in August 2022. People on average subscribe to 6 podcasts. That's it.

So the question becomes: how can we make sure that our podcast is one of those that people subscribe to?

When I take a look at my subscribing habits, I always look for consistency. Is this person producing content on a regular basis? I personally do not want to invest my time into a podcast and a person who sporadically shows up. If their episodes are week, that's my expectation. If it's monthly, that's my expectation.

Unless the show is super good. Like Hardcore History. I love that podcast. That's the only podcast that I'll forgive them for not being more consistent.

And it's also personal preference. The other day I gave a group coaching call. I said the start time was 5 p.m. I arrived at 4:50. And at 5 p.m., we started.

People staggered in 5, 10 even 15 minutes late.

I knew they would. But just because they were showing up late does not mean I can show up late. Because I show up for my regulars. I show up for the people who are committed. Whether they are ready or not doesn't matter. I'm ready. I'm producing content. I'm getting it out there.
