As the Co-Founder and Chief Customer Officer at Filtered, Vinit Patel built a winning business that's also uniquely inspiring. Without ANY external investment, Vinit grew his business from square one, scaling it successfully over the years, proving that you don't have to follow every other advice while setting foot on your entrepreneurial journey -- you can choose what works for you and build on it. 'Filtered' started as a business that sold online Excel training courses and gradually scaled to help large enterprise businesses, becoming a full-on learning tech company based in the UK today.
Vinit’s entrepreneurial journey had interesting plots of its kind. Working a few different jobs post graduation, Vinit could save some money before venturing into founding a business - an experience that provided him with a safety blanket to dive into it completely. Elaborating on that, Vinit adds that having the opportunity to take the risk of not earning money and still surviving gave him room to break into his business venture completely. He explains that if you could have a job and work on your passion as a side hustle for some time before turning it into a full-time thing, it gives you a lot of cover-up.
A major lesson he provides in this conversation is learning to get into your customer's shoes. He explains that as an entrepreneur, you must know how it feels to be "sold to". See the world from your customers' point of view rather than yours.
In his words, "If you're in a retail environment, get yourself behind the customer service desk, if you're in a tech sales environment, get yourself into the customer success team for a bit – see and feel those, those pain points and those stories, because you can then use that in your selling mode to convince and like credibly explain what they're going to get after the deal is closed."
