I am so grateful that my Mum gave my siblings and I family traditions for Christmas and our birthdays. In the wellness world there are very strong opinions about presents, how things should be celebrated etc, whether it creates a behaviour of expectation and stuff over connection and love. I think we can take this so seriously and forget that joy, magic and possibilities are some of the greatest gifts we can give our kids and family. Whether your children have an expectation attitude and a I want stuff attitude has nothing to do with what's given, and everything to do with how you parent and the values you instil in them. Personally, after loosing my mother to early onset dementia, the special traditions, the joy and the magic if those events each year are something I value more than anything. The feeling of love, joy and happiness they bring to me when I reflect on them is something I wish for all children to have. Tune into this episode and learn about what my family traditions were and are and how I create family memories and traditions that will last a lifetime with my own daughters.
