We are reminded that discouragement, despair, and depression are real battles of the mind and soul, but they are not greater than the presence, promises, and help of God. Like Paul, we may be troubled, perplexed, persecuted, and cast down, yet we do not have to be distressed, in despair, forsaken, or destroyed when our eyes remain fixed on the Lord. We learn that depression gains power when we lose sight of God, allow our thoughts to become self-centered and negative, and listen to the devil's lies instead of the truth of God's Word. Therefore, we must resist the devil, govern our thoughts by the Scriptures, call upon the living God in faith, and look to Christ alone for the comfort, strength, and deliverance our souls need.
