How to describe "does not need to do something"

In this lesson, I will introduce you how to describe "does not need to do something" using なくてもいいです.

なくて in なくてもいいです is the negative te-form.


あやまらなくてもいいです よ。

あやまらなくていいです よ。(slightly more casual)

You don't need to apologize.

*あやまらなくて is the negative te-form of a verb あやまる, which means "apologize".


あした は やすみなので はやく おきなくてもいいです。

あした は やすみなので はやく おきなくていいです。(slightly more casual)

Because tomorrow is a holiday, I don't need to get up early.

*おきなくて is the negative te-form of a verb おきる, which means "get up".


いそがなくてもいいです よ。

いそがなくていいです よ。(slightly more casual)

You don't need to hurry.

*いそがなくて is the negative te-form of a verb いそぐ, which means "hurry".
