How To Fit a Shower Tray - Bathroom Extractor Fans

Listen Later

The HowTo.TV team show you how to choose between bathroom extractor fans,
discuss why they are essential and how to actually fit them in your bathroom.

The actual plumbing and electrical work involved is a job that requires a degree of
expertise, and one that you’ll want professional help with.

In this episode Gavin looks at how to go about installing and upgrading extractor
fans. It’s important to remember that with the electrical issues involved in fitting
a bathroom fan, we’re getting into the areas of building regulations, so make sure
you consult a qualified electrician. These now require that all new bathrooms have
a form of extraction fitted.

When you’re fitting an extractor fan, safety is one of the primary concerns – and
there are plenty of options available. Extractor fans come in many varieties, there’s
the type that comes on when you turn on the light, the type manually operated by
pull chords, and the type that responds to the level of humidity in the room.
Consult an electrician about which is the right one for you and ideally get them
to fit your fan for you.

For additional touches, you can buy a low voltage shower light and extractor fan
combination – there are several reasonably priced models especially designed to be
placed above shower cubicles – there are regulations when installing lights near
shower jets, and the lights have to be recessed into the roof space –definitely a
job for an electrician.
