How to Increase Your Ability to Obey
Introduction
Jesus said if we love Him we will obey His commandments. Yvette Brandt our daughter wrote a hymn, ‘You’re the most faithful One I know, never giving up on me, and your determination shows, when I am weak…I can’t shake your hand, but I can go to other lands, that’s my way of saying ‘thank you!’’ She went with me to many countries. Once we went to India on a 3-week mission. She spoke to several churches and the Indian ladies loved her very much.
Our family
Nola & I have been on many missions to obey the Great Commission to ‘go!’ and the Great Command to ‘love!’. We laid down our lives for this cause when we were young. I was 34 when we returned from our mission to Australia.
Aje & Hilton have accompanied us on many missions already. Hilton has been to all the continents of the world already except Russia and Eastern Europe. Last year he went with me to Nepal.
As a family we have obeyed the Great Commission to ‘go!’ and the Great Command to ‘love!’
The Pelser family has been in the ministry four generations. It spans 100 years. We hope we will continue to do so by the grace of God. My father Andrew Pelser sold his steel & iron factory in Alrode and gave his 50% shares in Pelser & Draai Estate Agency away to his friend Tommy Draai when my father entered the full time ministry. He was always sent to struggling assemblies in the Apostolic Faith Mission and helped to establish them. He also built many parsonages and one conference center for the AFM. My Grandfather on my mother’s side, R. J. Bailey, built 18 churches single-handedly and started his own denomination, the Pentecostal Evangelical Church. My other Grandfather was a healing evangelist in the AFM.
Secret of obedience
The secret of increasing obedience is simply to do what you believe to fulfill the Word of God.
James 2:17 tell us that faith without works is dead, for alone it accomplishes nothing. The reason why you argue with the Word of God before or after you hear it is because your mind is un-renewed.
Here are some reasons why you need to increase your ability to obey the Word of God:
1. God’s instructions are peculiar.
2. We are prophetic actors that act out the Word like Jesus did.
3. God’s people are those that obey Him
4. Jesus became obedient unto death
Let us examine these reasons in a bit more detail. It will help us to become more obedient.
1. God’s instructions are peculiar
The natural mind does not understand the ways & thoughts of God. It argues against it because it is spiritually discerned. For instance, the Father told Jesus to spit and make clay and put it in the hollow parts of the face of the man born blind. And then He told him to go and wash in the pool of Siloam that means ‘sent’. (John 1:1-9)
2. Acting the Word
To act on the Word you require faith. When James tells us to rejoice in tribulation and count it all joy when we fall into temptation the natural mind rebels and cannot conceive it. We need to renew our minds according to the Word of God – continually! We need to repent where we missed it.
Obedience to the Word destroys the devil’s ability to control a life.
When the Word commands us to bring all the tithes and offerings to the Storehouse so that there might be meat in the house, the natural mind rebels. Malachi says we have sinned by not bringing the whole tithe to the Storehouse.
(Malachi 3:10) People that argue with the Word normally try to justify them. Their mind is un-renewed and cannot obey the Word. Satan can control an un-renewed mind.
3. God’s people are those who obey
God said it; I believe it and I will do it. It is as simple as that. God confirms His Word with signs and wonders and various miracles. Disobedience prevents divine manifestations. If you keep on obeying then things you believe for will come through. Only a renewed mind can ho
