How To Keep Food Fresh While Traveling

Listen Later

Keeping food fresh on long journeys can be messy and tough. In this episode, there are some tips and tricks to keep your food cold when traveling and camping.

To get the most out of your vegetables and fruit, make sure it's fresh. On the day of your trip, you can buy fresh vegetables and fruit at the local farmer's market.

Keep raw meat and poultry separate from other foods to prevent cross-contamination. Perishable foods should be consumed immediately and discarded within two hours of refrigeration.

If you pack your food, so it doesn't spoil on the way, keep an inventory of what you bring with you. Make a list and sort through it to determine which foods you should consume first. Stack the food in containers and make sure that the food to be consumed first is placed at the top and the food to be consumed last is placed at the bottom.

Last but not least, if you want to keep your food frozen while traveling, store it in reusable leak proof bags, such foods last up to three times longer than supermarket-bought ones.
