Mnemonics keep the mind sharp
I've read a number of Anthony's books now and they have had a major impact on my use of mnemonics. I first learnt to use them at university 20 years ago and while they worked I also struggled with them. Then I discovered Anthony's work and his intelligent use of memory palaces. This has made all the difference! If I had known how to use memory palaces then a lot of things over the last 20 years would have been a lot easier. Anthony has rekindled my love of mnemonics.
Somewhere in his work he says that memorising a pack of cards is like skipping (jumping rope). It an exercise that will keep your mind sharp. Now I memorise a pack of cards every day. It is easy, fun, and I get better at it everyday. I am beginning to really believe that I can remember things and that my memory can improve!
I memorise the cards by using a new memory palace each time with three cards at each station. I've found this helps my general memory, triggers memories of places I haven't been for a long time, and prevents me getting confused with the previous day's cards. The great thing about memorising cards is that once you have the images for the cards sorted then memorising them is a fast process. I know the cards, I know the locations, and I practise using my visualisation, creativity, imagination, and recall every day. It's a fun way to improve my memory that requires only a pack of cards - and importantly to me it doesn't require any screen-time.
Good read
Good! I have seen or heard about these things before. But it was nice to see them all in one place. I plan to use the memory techniques present in this book.
SHARP
There are some really great ideas in this book, i.e. exercise, don't smoke, etc. I will be incorporating them one at a time over the next couple weeks.
Five Stars
great clarity, and fun
