How Not to Run a Business

How to Lose a Business in 4-days with Simon Waterfall | Ep 10

Listen Later

10 years ago, Simon had a thriving business. He employed 40 staff and was living the dream. Within 4 days of a conversation with his accountant, his business was gone.

He very kindly sat down with me to discuss what happened, what he would do differently, and how life has been since. Simon was very generous to share his story, it's a very honest, open, and vulnerable conversation.

A must-listen for any entrepreneur or a business owner.

We discuss:

  • Key skills of entrepreneurs.
  • What part does risk play in failure?
  • When is the best time to start a business?
  • How you can lose a business in 4 days.
  • What would Simon do differently?
  • The most important thing you need looks at in your business.
  • The personal impact of closing your business.
  • What it's like after a business.
  • Simon's view on success and failure.

Simon has been working within the retail industry for over 25 years. From founding and scaling a fresh-food business, a stint volunteering for a flying disabled charity running a global fundraising initiate (apparently he's got a great Buzz Aldrin & Stephen Hawking story), then to Tesco heading up an entrepreneurial/innovation programme to COO of Spoon Cereals before landing his dream role with Soda Folk. He sees himself as the next custodian in Soda Folks' journey.
