The Everyday Storyteller

How to lose your audience in under two minutes.

Listen Later

At the Podcast Show in London I witnessed a masterclass….in how not to connect with your audience. Truly it was a shocker but it really got me thinking and I wanted to share my tips for telling a more engaging story when speaking in public:

  • Know your audience and what is going to be most interesting and relevant to them.
  • Before you’ve even said your name, tell a story.
  • Keep facts and figures to a minimum - and only use them to evidence a point you’re making
  • Ditch all the buzz words, jargon, fancy pants things you think you SHOULD say just because you’re standing up in front off people.

  • Most importantly, enjoy it. If people tune in to see you, it’s because they want to genuinely hear what you have to say and learn from you so give them what they want :-)
