John the Baptist was sent to prepare people for Jesus’ arrival, teaching that humility and repentance are essential to receive Him. Jesus, as the fulfillment of God’s promises, is holy and perfect, requiring us to recognize our sin and need for His mercy to begin a relationship with Him.
