How to motivate yourself.

Listen Later

Motivation is defined as the reason why you do something. When you understand your why, you’ll be unstoppable. 💯

I never fully understood burnout until I became a mom.

Pre-baby me, was motivating myself, but I didn’t realize that my motivation came in sprints. I would motivate myself with upcoming events, or outfits, or short-term goals that really aren't sustainable. I would put in a little bit of effort and got the most out of it, but when it came to post-baby me, and I entered into a new season of my life, I realized that my old habits of motivating myself no longer suited me and I needed to re-learn how to motivate myself for a sustainable long term gain.

Now, post-kid, I basically have to get up and do a whole TED convention with myself to stay motivated and satisfied at this almost ideal weight so that I don’t go flying off the handle and wish that I had my pre-baby body back. But it’s worth it because this new season has taught me so much about motivation and what it takes to combat burnout.

Motivation is directly related to clarity. When you can see clearly, you can perform efficiently.

If you make it a mission to check in with yourself regularly and to not be afraid to make changes to your life - even if that means an entirely new daily routine - then the burnout will never come, and motivation will stay king.

If that means waking up an hour or two earlier than usual to get that morning workout in, do it. If that means doing things the night before so that you can sleep longer for more brain power, do it.

If that means deleting a few people from your life because they no longer serve you, buh bye friends, do it.

Serve yourself first, align your priorities, and you’ll be motivated to do anything.

Becoming motivated and staying motivated means regularly checking in with yourself and doing some seasonal cleaning of your habits and your actions.

My challenge for you this episode is this:

Sit down with yourself, or stand up, or drive or wherever you do your best thinking, go there, and ask yourself “what are my values, what season am I in, are all of my habits serving me well within this season, and is there anything that i need to do to shift or pivot and make adjustments in order to meet my goals?”

Once you answer those questions for yourself, you’ll have a roadmap on what you need to do and how you need to get there, and you've just unleashed the sustainable motivation that you need. 🙌

You got this.

Lauren
