How To Pass GED Reading

Listen Later

In this episode, we discuss the GED Reading section of the Reasoning through Language Arts (RLA) subtest, and we evaluate reading comprehension skills for both literary and informational texts.

We look at how the 95-minute test includes around 45 multiple-choice questions based on passages up to 900 words long. 75% of the content focuses on informational texts (social studies, humanities, science, workplace), while 25% covers literary texts (fiction, not poetry).

We discuss how this section evaluates the ability to comprehend the central idea and theme and how students must be able to identify and summarize the main idea and supporting details, draw inferences and make generalizations, understand text structure, identify the relationship between paragraphs and sentences, and analyze the author's tone and purpose.

Additionally, we provide information about effective test-taking techniques for the best preparation and successful performance.
