Lean Manufacturing was invented in Japan, in Toyota factories.
Its founding father was an engineer called Taiichi Ohno (1912-1990), who described it in his book Toyota Production System.
At that time, Japan was a country exhausted from defeat in the Second World War; it was a land with few resources and geographically not large in size.
