Staying focused and positive in a negative world filled with unproductive distractions is no doubt challenging.  Yet, it's critical for our mental, emotional, social and even physical wellbeing.  

There are tools we can use to change our mindset and cultivate feelings of gratitude, both of which are useful.  However, what happens when our positivity negatively impacts our resilience?  

What's not often talked about are the damaging effects of blind positivity.  Sometimes, rather than putting a positive spin on our circumstances, it may be better to explore our expectations and our willingness to accept the reality of our situation (in the moment anyway).  

What cannot be discounted is the value of our self-talk, mindfulness and the strength of our relationships we have with the people around us.  By working on our relationships, and experimenting with these tools we can find out what works for us and adapt them into our daily lives.  These tools and strategies can serve as a positive anchor as well as our compass.
