Katie McKenn’a story is a poignant reminder – especially now as we’re all experiencing unforeseen challenges - about how uncertain life really is. No matter how confident you are about your path ahead, life is unpredictable and can change in a split second. Katie shows how you can choose to thrive even after the most devastating of circumstances.
As a 24 year old, Katie was ambitious and in pursuit to ‘live the dream’ - financial success, the house, husband, and kids – when on a beautiful morning bike ride she was run over – twice – by an 18-wheeler. Katie’s prognosis was grim – she shouldn’t have survived.
During her extended hospital stay and lengthy recovery at her parent’s home, Katie started to write about her experience as a way to cope with what she was going through. What began as a journal entry, became a best selling memoir, How to Get Run Over by a Truck.
Katie now travels the country as a professional speaker delivering her message to a variety of audiences – how hope, resilience, humor, and kindness can help you overcome anything life throws you. She is a self-proclaimed aggressive chaser of joy, delighting in the everyday moments.
Katie lives in Brooklyn, and has a thriving coaching practice where she helps people tap into their grit, courage, and joy to overcome challenges big and small.
