When you start something new, it’s easy to get caught up in the act of DOING. Doing things, no matter how useful they are, can feel good and feel productive. But there’s a big difference between productive in the “I got stuff done” sense, and productive in the “I made progress today” sense.
What we want in life is to make progress. We want to move forward. It’s something all humans are biologically built for. So, if you shift your definition of productivity from “I need a bunch of things to do” to “What’s the most important thing that can be done”, you start to create momentum toward the thing you’re after.
