As we continue to discuss ego, we’re taking a look at how codependency can relate to it.  Special guest, Tim Holloway, has an extensive background in psychology, and experience working in treatment centers where he dealt with codependency first hand.  Most of us know someone that takes on the caretaker role in an attempt to feel needed.  This person is codependent and doesn’t have a strong sense of self.  Tim shares how he recognized codependency in his own family and broke the cycle.

Recognizing your codependent tendencies is the first step to change.  Most people will find this in their habit of people-pleasing.  They’ll have to fight the urge to do for others what they can do for themselves.  Those that struggle with codependency will experience feelings of fear and loss as they begin to set new boundaries.  Learning to say no is one of the hardest steps in breaking the pattern, but it’s necessary.  Instead, focus your energy on learning about yourself, and finding acceptance from within.
