In ancient times, the sky god Nyame possessed all the world's wisdom in a clay pot, which he eventually decided to give to Ananse the spider. As Ananse learned from the pot, his greed grew, and he determined to hide it at the top of a tall tree for himself alone. He tied the pot to his stomach with spider silk and began climbing, but struggled with the pot bumping against his knees. His observant young son suggested tying the pot to his back instead, which worked much better. Upon reaching the treetop, Ananse became furious that his son had shown greater wisdom than he possessed. In his anger, Ananse threw down the pot, shattering it and releasing wisdom throughout the world. This is how humanity gained knowledge of farming, weaving, metalworking, and all other skills that people now possess.
