How Your Attachment Style Affects Your Relationships

Listen Later

Ever wonder why babies have different reactions to their moms leaving the room, whether it’s crying and being hysterical or acting calm and collected, or isolating themselves and avoiding everyone? Mary Ellen explains how these 3 examples are all considered the 3 attachment styles: anxious, secure, and avoidant. By going through each scenario in more depth and looking at the relationships of babies and mothers, we grow these attachment styles from birth and latch onto them throughout our lives. By being controlled with these unconscious stories that build up in our minds as infants, Mary Ellen explains how baby’s attachment styles are similar to adults in that they portray a defense mechanism and explains some clients she’s worked with that represent avoidant and anxious. With all this talk about babies and relationships, can we ever change these habits of having anxious and avoidant attachment styles? The answer is: yes! Hear all about what it’s like to experience an anxious, secure, and avoidant attachment style and how people can overcome anxious and avoidant styles to become secure by Mary Ellen’s tips and questions to ask.
