How Your Thoughts Create Your Results (the good and the bad!)

This episode is an introduction to the “model” that is a powerful tool taught in coaching. It helps bring so much awareness to how our thoughts create our feelings which drive our actions and ultimately our results.

Set a timer for 5 minutes and do a "thought download" - a free write, unedited, uncensored- write about the situation/what happened like you would in a journal or recounting the story to yourself or a close friend/family member). Best to write it out so you can refer back to your notes as you fill in your model.

After you're done with your thought download - look at what you wrote. What is the neutral situation/circumstance? Remember, this is an objective, undisputable fact (not "He was angry at the meeting" but rather "I was involved in a meeting with x person today."

Then go to whatever line you want to next that comes easily to you (maybe you know for sure how you felt and you can fill in the feeling line). Or maybe you know what your actions and the result of the situation was. Sometimes it's more difficult for us to recall/remember what the THOUGHT was that led to our behaviors/feelings about whatever happened. But this is where the magic happens. Examine your thoughts. Bring them out into the light. And as you start to understand and be able see your thoughts for what they are (optional sentences your brain offers), your perspectives, feelings, and results can shift in tiny and huge ways.
