Additionally effective is Kit Harrington, who portrays Noah as alternating between loving and irrational. His acting consistently toes the edge, leaving us wondering which Noah we're going to see in any given scene. Alexander J. Farrell, the film's director and co-writer, uses the creature feature idea to address the problem of abuse, notably how an abuser uses kindness to cushion the blow after an outburst before the next event happens. Harrington's performance is ideal for achieving that objective. There are some viscerally thrilling moments in The Beast Within's big climax. However, for the most part, it's a psychological horror movie that rewards viewers who can tolerate its plodding pace.
