On this next exciting episode of Hoy En Dia TV, our special guest is a Colonel in the United States Air Force, proudly serving for over 27 years. His distinguished career includes numerous stateside assignments as well as deployments across the globe—including South Korea, Italy, Afghanistan, and the Balkans. In 2002–2003, while assigned to Allied Forces Southern Europe Headquarters in Naples, Italy, Jason Markiewitz served as part of a NATO contingent forward deployed to the former Yugoslavia. There, he spent time primarily in Kosovo and Bosnia and Herzegovina, where he witnessed firsthand the haunting aftermath of conflict.
In addition to his military service, Jason is a multifaceted creative: an award-winning audiobook narrator and audio dramatist, accomplished writer, poet, theatrical/film/commercial/voice actor, and game designer. He is married to his high school sweetheart, and together they are raising three children.
Sarajevo Roses is his second poetry collection, following his 2003 debut, Beneath the Mojave Desert Moon (Morris Publishing). This poignant new volume pairs powerful poetry with original photography, capturing the stark realities and emotional weight of the second Kosovo campaign through the eyes of a forward-deployed officer. Described as raw, unforgiving, and deeply moving, Sarajevo Roses has received numerous five-star reviews and is available through major online booksellers.
