Joe and I went to a wedding this weekend, we are very happy for Jordan and Lindsay and grateful we got to share their special day with them.
"The prohibition does not apply to a firearm that is (1) manually operated by bolt, pump, lever, or slide action; (2) permanently inoperable; (3) an antique; or (4) a rifle or shotgun specifically identified by make and model.
The bill also exempts from the prohibition the following, with respect to a SAW or LCAFD:
The bill permits continued possession, sale, or transfer of a grandfathered SAW, which must be securely stored. A licensed gun dealer must conduct a background check prior to the sale or transfer of a grandfathered SAW between private parties.
The bill permits continued possession of, but prohibits sale or transfer of, a grandfathered LCAFD.
Newly manufactured LCAFDs must display serial number identification. Newly manufactured SAWs and LCAFDs must display the date of manufacture.
The bill also allows a state or local government to use Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program funds to compensate individuals who surrender a SAW or LCAFD under a buy-back program." https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/house-bill/1808
We are against this bill because it seems designed to create a special class of people in this country, a special class which will inevitably be majority white and majority conservative. This ban will do nothing to lower the number of guns already on the streets in America and will invariably increase the value of those gun collections already out there, while making the prospect of gun ownership nearly unattainable for America's poor and those not fortunate enough to be born as of yet (unless they are born into a gun owning family. This ban will not stop gun violence in this country, but it will stop hesitant gun buyers from ever having the opportunity to change their mind that they too, might need one. We sincerely hope this legislation will not pass the senate, and believe any true gun control advocate should feel the same because it does nothing to take the 360 million~ legally owned guns already in this country off the streets. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2022-05-25/how-many-guns-in-the-us-buying-spree-bolsters-lead-as-most-armed-country
Guns are dangerous, but dumb ideas, unchallenged in the U.S. Congress, have the potential for devastating consequences.
