The New York Association on Independent Living (NYAIL) urges Governor Hochul and the Legislature to fully fund the state’s network of 41 Independent Living Centers. NYAIL's Executive Director Lindsay Miller spoke with Sina Basila Hickey about this funding need as well as the need for more culture shifts.

President Trump has said he plans to attack Cuba once he is finished with Iran and Venezuela. The blockade of oil shipments to Cuba has worsened the 60 years of embargos the US has imposed on Cuba. The country is often without power and shortages of food and medicine have reached a critical stage. Local peace activist Mabel Leon, who has organized support for Cuba for the last four decades, talks with Mark Dunlea of Hudson Mohawk Magazine about the situation.

The New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC), member organizations, allies, immigrant New Yorkers, and elected officials rallied on the 3rd Floor at the New York State Capitol, demanding immediate passage of the New York for All Act. The act would prohibit local governments including the police from cooperating with ICE to harass immigrants. With the state budget expected to be finalized in the coming weeks, advocates are calling on the Governor and the State Legislature to act now by passing the New York for All Act and deliver long-overdue protections for immigrant New Yorkers. 15 activists were arrested for blocking the entrances to the State Senate and Assembly. We hear from Giovanetta Marangoz of the NYC Young Democratic Socialists of America, Jahaira Roldan and Murah Awadeh of the NY Immigration Coalition, and Bryan MacCormack of the Columbia County Sanctuary Movement. Currently based in the Capitol Region of NY, Ian Macks originally hails from The Bronx. As a youth, Ian was non-verbal for most of his first decade on Earth. This early point of view manifested into Ian's emotional sensitivities on love, loss, racism, and hardship. Now, Ian's distinct voice and literary light shines whenever he takes the stage and performs his work at various open mics and events in the area.

Ian's debut chapbook A Loss and Gain of Comfort was released in 2014 and his full-length poetry collection, Identity Crisis, was published in 2024 by recto y verso editions, inc.

On March 19, 2019, Ian was the featured poet at the Brass Tacks series at The Low Beat.
