Publisher's Summary:
The bullet riddled campaign bus of Senator Katherine Laforge is found on a lonely snow swept road near Charlestown, New Hampshire. Who are the assassins behind this deadly attack of a presidential candidate? Who wants her dead?
Has her unorthodox quest for peace between Iraq and the USA incensed her foreign policy adversaries to the point of killing her? Could the perpetrators of this attack be any of the thousands of accountants, lawyers or IRS agents who fear and loathe Katherine's campaign pledge to replace income tax with a simple national sales tax? Is her support and policies for the United States to end its reliance on foreign oil, incendiary enough for the billionaire oil cartel to silence her? Is she a victim of an Islamic militant's reprisal for her outspoken view on their Jihad?
Or is this attack simply because Senator Katherine Laforge is now a clear and present danger to the age-old bastion of men at the helm of the United States?

Immersive from start to finish
To be honest, I really don't know where to start with this review. "Hulaga's Web" shares some eerie parallels to real-life circumstances/events that kept me on the edge of my seat and literally made it hard for me to put my kindle down at some points. I really enjoyed the female-president element, as I can't say that I have came across a book that is centered around this sort of theme before; not only is the plot unique, but it is also executed in a very admirable way with clear competency of literary elements that I'm sure will leave even the most hardened literary critics more than satisfied. There is, of course, a deep political influence in the book - but the reader needn't be competent with current politics to enjoy the book. Katherine Laforge is a great, dynamic character that I was quite impressed with- she has many admirable qualities, but she is also flawed at the same time which adds extra depth to the overall read. In summary, I would consider Hulaga's Web the type of book that I could definitely see myself reading again in the future, and I highly recommend that others give it a chance.

I finished reading this novel last night near midnight. It was recommended by a friend and I thank her for the suggestion. A plot twist in the middle of the book left me spinning but I soon recovered and enjoyed the resulting story. It took me back to a maddening part of my life when I closely followed individual military units while I was disgusted by the false reasons we were in Iraq. I need to follow up and research some of the green projects described by the author and see how they are progressing.
Very well written....
I do wish there were candidates out there like Senator Laforge. Weâve seen so much political mayhem in the last decade that a heroine of her stature would be a welcome change. The fact that she is a woman is just an added bonus in my eyes. The plot was concise and tight, the intrigue well drawn and realistic, and the characters believable. Kudos, Mr. Hearne, for a well written novel. Katherine in particular touched me with her bravery and her refusal to back down from her beliefs. I felt such inspiration reading about a strong female character and especially in political fiction.
