When Being Human Feels Heavy: Fragility, Faith, and Jesus Saving Peter

Jeremy welcomes newcomers, highlights upcoming church activities and giving options, and introduces a new series on what it means to be human. He explains “human” as “dirt man,” emphasizing both human creativity and human fragility, and describes how adulthood and life pressures expose limits, anxiety, disappointment, and the temptation to compensate and pretend through image management. Citing Genesis 2 and a Rich Mullins lyric, he argues people are not as strong or in control as they think and were not designed to carry life alone. He then teaches from Matthew 14: after John the Baptist’s murder and the feeding of the 5,000, the disciples face a storm; Peter walks on water but sinks when he focuses on the wind, cries “Lord, save me,” and Jesus immediately rescues him. The message invites honesty about where people are “sinking,” remembering God’s repeated help, and relying on Jesus rather than pretending. 00:00 Welcome and Announcements 00:39 New Series Setup 01:08 Humans From Dust 02:18 Adulting and Fragility 08:50 Pressure and Pretending 14:22 Matthew 14 Overview 17:13 Storm on the Water 19:27 Peter Steps Out 21:40 Sinking and Crying Out 27:36 Jesus Grabs Him 29:23 Why Did You Doubt 33:08 Where Are You Sinking 34:56 Prayer and Closing
