History is a recording of the wrongdoing of mankind. This passage explains the woes of our race. The conquest of evil is certain. That is why we cannot be aligned with it. Judgement and mercy operate constantly and concurrently within our world until justice is secured under the reign of righteousness. The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all godlessness and wickedness. We need the discernment to recognize that, not to attribute it to a specific cause. The judgements of God are designed to bring us to him. While we dont have to think of justice as being penal or negative, justice is making things right; justice is making things fair. God is infinitely righteous and fair, and believers are justified through Christ.
