Humanizing Healthcare is not just about technology, though it does play a big role. It's about how you interact with patients, how you care for them as human beings, and how your systems change to fit their needs. Technology has the power to bring more clearly into focus who are providing the care and what it’s like to be on the other side of it, but it must be accompanied by the right attitude in all other aspects of healthcare.
The best healthcare is not just about fancy gadgets, though they do make a big difference. It's about how you interact with your patients, how you care for them as people, and how the systems evolve around their needs. Technology can bring more clearly into focus the people who provide that care and what it feels like to be on the receiving end of it, but it must be supported by the right attitude in all other aspects of healthcare.
It's not just about technology. It's about how you interact with patients and how you can change the system to fit their needs. Technology has the power to more clearly show who is providing care and what it is like to receive it, but it must be accompanied by the right attitude in all other aspects of healthcare.
We have no doubt that you care deeply about your patients. But we also know that technology can make the work of humanizing healthcare much, much easier. We've got the tools to make it possible. So let's get started!
People are the heart of healthcare, and applying the right technologies can remind us about that. People make all the difference for care providers and for those getting care.
For patients, healthcare is personal. It's not just their health that's on the line--it's their life. They may be worried about returning home after spending so much time in the hospital. They may be afraid to speak up and ask for help. If a doctor is short with them, or if the nurse seems standoffish, how can they feel comfortable sharing their needs? The best way for healthcare professionals to show compassion is by being human first: smile at your patients. Make eye contact when you speak with them.
Technology can be used in many ways. However, it is not the only answer. A good employee can learn to interact with patients in a way that is patient-focused, sensitive and caring. The hospital should also consider other aspects of providing care to patients such as staff training, safety and morale.
